College sports are one of the things many people, not just students look forward to during the year. Whether it's a one handed catch in a rivalry football game or a last minute shot in basketball to win the game. It can create a sense of community on and off the campus, bring in revinue from advertising, and put eyes on a school that may not normally be seen. But, is it always the best thing. I hear many students on campus talking about the want of a sports program, especially football. But, with it being so expensive, is it worth it?
You must take into consideration a few things. One, our school is small, and is still growing. Right now, GGC is having to recruit students first. The school has to grow. Second, to start the program is very expensive. The students would see a spike in tuition. With the economy the way it is, doing that would change one of the reasons people choose GGC, it's inexpensive. My biggest thing is this, TIME. Even if we were to start the program, it would take a year or two for it to become reality. And, with that, the team would be new, so it would take a few years for us to be good.
